Data-driven Decision Making (D3M)
The PICCS Data Warehouse is designed to support principals and teachers in using student achievement data effectively to establish appropriate achievement targets, improve and individualize instruction and meet IAP, CIP and SWAP objectives. Developed in partnership with TetraData , the Data Warehouse provides principals and teachers with data and support in a manner that is efficient and easy-to-understand. Its interface is a portal that resembles a dashboard—i.e. it provides access to all of the system’s data and resources from a single, easy-to-navigate screen. This interface gives all of the project’s stakeholders—from teachers and principals to board members—a quick, easy way to access real-time student data and to monitor student, classroom and school progress towards meeting achievement objectives at any time and from any place. The PICCS Data Warehouse includes the following components:
- Tools to Help Educators Set Achievement Targets – The PICCS Data Management System will support teachers and principals in establishing data-based achievement targets by storing and analyzing a variety of student assessment and related data from current and past years and, based on this analysis, making data-based recommendations. Teachers and principals can then accept the recommendation or use it as a “starting point” in a target-setting process that will consider additional factors and information.
- A Data Management Platform – A collection of digital resources that manage, move and cleanse education data. The platform will enable PICCS and its member schools to take data from multiple sources and store it at a single point, where educators can then easily access and use the data for objective-setting, reporting and decision-making. Its Data-on-Demand and Central Data Store features provide for automatic data loading from outside sources into a central data warehouse and easy storage, analysis and reporting of current and historic student data. Its digital warehouse feature allows for storage and instantaneous access to data 24 hours a day from any location.
- Information Analysis Tools – These tools help schools, principals and teachers manage all the data that affects student achievement, to use technology-supported analyses of data to pinpoint factors influencing their successes and challenges and to measure and track their progress toward important benchmarks and achievement targets.
